PHYSICAL THERAPY for KIDS!

Gross Motor Skills  •  Strength, Balance, & Coordination  •  Toe Walking & Gait Abnormalities  •  Developmental Delays

GROSS MOTOR SKILLS & DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS

Our physical therapy sessions focus on developing and promoting gross motor skills such as:

  • rolling over, crawling, standing

  • walking and running

  • jumping and climbing

  • balance, coordination, strength, and endurance

Physical therapy sessions will engage your child in exercises and games that simulate real-life situations, such as climbing stairs, playing on playground equipment, or engaging in sports activities. By practicing these functional activities in a play-based context, we help children transfer their gross motor skills into everyday life.

TOE WALKING

Physical therapy for toe walking addresses the underlying cause, such as tightness in the calf muscles, sensory issues, or developmental delays. Physical therapy for toe walking will help your child:

  • strengthen the muscles in the lower legs, ankles, and feet

  • improve stability, control, and balance during walking

  • improve body awareness

  • develop a more typical walking pattern

In some cases, your physical therapist may recommend the use of orthotic devices, such as ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs), to support the proper alignment of the feet and ankles for a more typical walking pattern. The ultimate goal is to improve walking efficiency and stability and support the child's overall functional mobility.

BALANCE & COORDINATION

Pediatric physical therapy focused on balance and coordination will help your child achieve the physical skills necessary to engage in everyday life. Our sessions will help your child develop:

  • improved stability and equilibrium

  • the ability to stand on one leg, walk on uneven surfaces, and maintain stability in various positions

  • improved control, precision, and fluidity in movements

  • a better understanding of their body in space

  • ability to recognize and respond to sensory input

Enhancing balance and coordination skills also contributes to safety and injury prevention as well as increased confidence at home, school, and in the community.
